This Samvat was started in 56 BC in honor of King Vikramaditya defeating the Saka kings and liberating the country of Avanti. Among the Indian territories, Vikram Samvat has been prevalent in Gujarat since the time of Solanki kings.
According to this calendar there are twelve months of the year. Whose days are calculated based on the art of the moon. According to the Gujarati calendar, Poonam comes in the middle of each month i.e. on the fifteenth day, while Amas comes at the end of the month i.e. on the thirtieth day. There are two fortnights in each month, Sud and Vad (Shukla Paksha and
Krishna Paksha).



The months of the year according to this Vikram Samvant are as follows.
