Mother Parvati is seated in this temple in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. The temple is beautifully carved. This temple is an ancient temple and it is believed that the sanctum sanctorum inside this temple was built 3500 years ago. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shivaji and Goddess Parvati. It is believed that worshiping in this temple brings a true partner and removes all the hardships of life. Meenakshi means one whose eyes are like a fish. Mother Meenakshi Shiva's wife is considered to be the sister of Lord Vishnu. This was the marriage Lord Shiva performed in the form of Meenakshi. It is believed that Lord Shiva came to Madurai with a lot of them in the form of Sundeshwar to marry Princess Meenakshi, the daughter of the Pandava king Maldhvaj. It is one of the richest temples. The interior of this temple is 3500 years old. Meenakshi temple is one of the richest temples in India. This temple is a pure example of old sculptures and objects. Construction took place in the 17th century. There is a temple of Sundareshwar (Shiva temple complex) in the vast forecourt and Meenakshi Devi temple on the right. The Shiva temple complex has an attractive idol of Lord Shiva in Nataraja mudra. This idol is located on a silver altar. Outside there are many sculptural figures, built on only one stone, as well as a temple of Ganesha. The smallest dome of the temple spread over 45 acres is 160 feet high. Apart from the main temple Sundareswar and Meenakshi temple, there are other temples. Where Lord Ganesha, Murugan, Lakshmi, Rukmini, Goddess Saraswati are worshiped.
Spread over 45 acres, the temple also has a lake called 'Port Marai Kumal' in Tamil. Which means a lake with golden lotuses. A lotus is made in this lake which is 165 feet long and 120 feet wide.
This lotus flower is formed in the middle of the lake. It is believed that this lake is the abode of Lord Shiva. Inside the temple, myths are written on the pillars and idols of Goddess Lakshmi are made on the eight pillars. Apart from that there is a very beautiful hall with 1000 pillars. Lions and elephants are also built on these pillars.
There are 4 main doors (gopurams) to go inside the temple, which are connected to each other. The temple has a total of 14 gopurams. The tallest 9-storey southern gopuram at 170 feet is the tallest. All these goparums have beautiful figures of different gods and goddesses. Every Friday, gold idols of Meenakshi Devi and Lord Sundareshwar are hung in a swing, which is attended by thousands of devotees.
The temple has numerous other mandapams including Kambabatdi, Unjal and Kilikuttu mandapams, all of which are spectacular specimens of Dravidian art and architecture.

Time to visit Meenakshi Temple (મીનાક્ષી મંદિરે દર્શન કરવાનો સમય):
The temple has about 50 priests, who conduct the worship in six days as follows.
The Meenakshi Temple is open daily from 6 am to 10 pm. While it is closed between 12.30 pm and 4 pm, this is the reason why it is clear in Hindu scriptures that the abode of Lord Shiva should not be open in the afternoon.
- 5 pm to 6 pm - Tiruvanandal Puja
- 6.30 am to 7.15 pm - Visa Puja and Kalasanshi Puja.
- 10.30 am to 11.15 am - Thraklasanshi Puja and Uchikal Puja.
- 4.30 pm to 5.15 pm - Malai Puja
- 7.30 am to 8.15 pm - Ardhjam Puja.
- 9.30 am to 10 pm - Palliyarai Puja
It is best to visit the temple once in the morning and once in the evening (at night ceremony). The main entrance of the temple is on the east side.
Idol made of gold (સ્વર્ણ(સોના) થી બનેલ છે મૂર્તિ) :
In the sanctum sanctorum of the temple there are gold statues of Meenakshi Devi and Lord Sundareswara and these statues are hung in a swing every Friday. A special crowd is seen in this temple on Fridays. And thousands of devotees come to this temple.
Best time to visit Tamil Nadu (તામિલનાડું જવા માટેનો બેસ્ટ સમય) :
Monsoon (During monsoon you do not go to Tamil Nadu state as there is a lot of heavy rains in this state during this time. So there is a lot of trouble. The best time to visit Meenakshi temple is from September to May.
Meenakshi Temple Darshan (મીનાક્ષી મંદિર દર્શન)
Only Hindus can go to the holy temple inside to see the idols of Goddess Meenakshi and Lord Surendranasvara. If you do not want to wait three hours in the free line, you will have to pay an extra fee for a "special darshan" ticket. Special darshan tickets can be taken immediately for darshan. For Goddess Meenakshi, and for both the deities, 50 rupees costs you 100 rupees.
You can't take camera or mobile with you for the security of the temple (મંદિરની સુરક્ષાને લઇ કેમેરા કે મોબાઈલ આપ લઈ જઈ શકતા નથી).
Following the bomb blasts in Hyderabad, security at the temple has been beefed up in 2013. Cameras are no longer allowed inside the temple. Cell phones with cameras were allowed until the beginning of February 2018, but they are now banned along with plastic items. This unfortunately means that it is not possible to take photos in the temple complex.
