Zaverchand Meghani was a poet, novelist, storyteller, researcher-editor, critic, translator of folklore.
Zaverchand Meghani was born on 15th August in Samvat 16 in Chotila village of Gujarat. Gandhiji conferred the title of National Shire on Zaverchand Meghani.
His mother's name was Dholibai and his father's name was Kalidas Meghani who was a Jain merchant from Bagasara. His father's job was in the police department and due to his transfers through the police department, he had to live with his family in different villages of Gujarat. Zaverchand was educated in Rajkot, Datha, Paliyad, Bagasara, Amreli etc. She completed her secondary education at the then Government High School in Amreli and the present TP Gandhi & MT Gandhi Girls' School from 1910 to 1912 and matriculated in Year: 1912 To 1917, he completed his bachelor's degree in English and Sanskrit from Shamaldas College, Bhavnagar.
After completing his studies In 1919, he joined an aluminum company called Jivanlal Limited in Kolkata. He also had to go to England once while working for this company. After working in this company for 3 years, he quit his job due to attachment to his homeland and settled in Bagasara. In 19, he got married to Damayantiben of Jetpur. Zaverchand was fascinated with Gujarati literature from an early age and during his stay in Calcutta he was also introduced to Bengali literature. After settling in Bagasara, he started writing in a newspaper called 'Saurashtra' published from Ranpur. From 18 to 19 he was the editor of 'Saurashtra'. During this time he took his literary writings seriously and created 'Stories of Sacrifice' which was also his first published book. He then compiled 'Saurashtrani Rasadhar' and also started translating from Bengali literature.
In writing poetry, he took steps called 'Venina's Flower'. Started at Year 26 To 28, he was awarded the Ranjitram Gold Medal for his contribution to folklore. His collection of Sangram songs 'Singhudo' - inspired the youth of India. In 1930, Zaverchand had to spend two years in jail. During this time he composed the poem 'Bowl of Poison' on Gandhiji's visit to London for the Round Table Conference. Gandhiji conferred the title of National Shire on Zaverchand Meghani. He also started writing short stories in a newspaper called Fulchhab. Is. After the death of his wife in 33, he settled in Mumbai in 34. Here he got married to Chitradevi. He started writing articles under the name 'Kalam and Kitab' in a newspaper called Janmabhoomi and also wrote independent novels.
From 1936 to 1945 th he played the role of editor of Fulchhab during which he published his booklet 'Marela's Blood' in year 1942. year 1946 th, his book 'Mansai Na Diwa' was honored with Mahida Prize and in the same year he was appointed as the head of the literature department of Gujarati Sahitya Parishad.
