Shialbet Island, south of Pipavav Port and 25 nautical miles from Jafarabad, has no air or land transport facilities due to its natural and geographical adversities. Apart from 4 months of monsoon, the remaining 8 months are spent by this community as seafarers in Jaffrabad and surrounding coastal areas. Spread over 98 hectares, Shialbet is surrounded by the Arabian Sea on all sides. With a population of about 5000 people, this is an area of Gujarat. The literacy rate in Shialbet is - 31.02% and the caste ratio is - 911. that can only be reached by boat or sea route. This foxbat has an illustrious history.

This Shialbet is the town known as Sinhaladwip in ancient times. Presently there is an island in Jafarabad taluka of Amreli district. Shialbet village has its own unique and rich history. This village, the capital of the Chavda clan, is only 5 km from Pipavav port. It is far away. Shialbet is well known for its pristine, ancient and religious sites. There are many religious places including Thanwav, Chelaiyano Khandanio, Bhenslapir, Sawai Pir, Ramji Temple, Dargah at Shialbet.
Shialbet Island has a very bright history. In ancient times, this city named Sinhaladwip was ruled by King Kanaksingh. This king had a very beautiful and intelligent daughter. He is very proud of being beautiful and intelligent. She insisted on marrying only the prince who answered her questions full of thirty-two traits and intelligence. But the condition was that whoever could not answer the princess's questions would be imprisoned.
Those princes who gave wrong answers to the princess's questions were taken captive and sent to jail. As such, he imprisoned as many as 999 princes. It is said that these captive princes had dug out numerous pits, the remains of which are still seen in Shialbet. In one such incident Veer Ebhalwala, the lord of Taldhwaj (present-day Talaja city), fought to free his nephew and King Ra'kawat of Junagadh from captivity from this place. In which Ebhalwala freed his nephew and killed the king and princess.
There is a fresh water spring on the coast of Shialbet Island. Even though the brackish water of the ocean tides is regurgitated on it, the water of this spring remains salty, a charisma of nature. This spring is known as "Guptaganga". When it came to Vav, I remembered that there is a Thanaki Vav (well) and Vav (well) here in Shialbet. There is a folk belief about this vav that women who are not able to breastfeed their babies (no milk coming in), if they take off their underwear and dip in this thanaki vav, their problem will be solved.
There is an ancient lake called Gangatalav in Shialbet. The ancient cave of Guru Gorakhnath is located here. It is said that Guru Gorakhnath came to this place in Shialbet and did sadhana with bangles tied to Rukshmaniji. This place has a narrow entrance where you can sit down.

The story of Seth Sagaalsha and Changavati's chelaiya is something like this... Once, due to Lakshmiji's insistence, Lord Krishna himself came to the village priest in the guise of a bloodthirsty monk to test the devotion of Seth Sagaalsha and Changavati Shethani. Only then treat food. The time was also monsoon. Due to heavy rain for three or four days, no Brahmin monks were found. Then someone came and told Seth about this leper monk.
Seth Sagalsha himself brought them home in a basket. He was welcomed. Beautiful cooking was prepared from Bhava. When Sethani came with a plate, the monk hit the plate and said, "We do not eat kheer rotli, we do not eat food, Majan people, we eat meat," said Kirtar. "
Meat is considered sinful there for religious devotees. But if the guest goes hungry, he will break his support. Finally Seth himself immediately went secretly to the butcher and brought the meat. Shethani served the platter to Sadhu Maharaj after cooking the meat without any sense of guilt in his mind.
But the monk did not heal the plate and spoke angrily, "We are the soil of man, but we do not love the soil, we have to live in the Aghor Panth, the edge of the game." "
Seth - Sethani was stunned to hear this. Thinking that he is getting a real test, finally he had to 'yes' to bring human flesh too. But again there was a concern that if we feed our own meat to a guest, who will make a monk? And no one else is willing to die. Finally it is decided to kill one of his own sons – Chelaiya. It was God Himself in the guise of a blood-drinking monk who came to take the Seth-Shethani test. So Chelaiyya was also intimidated. But Chelai, the son of noble parents, did not waver.
Ultano says ” Bhagu to mari bhomka laje, bhoring jile na bhar. ” Finally, after killing Chelaiya, Shethani turns to the monk to cook and feed Khandi in Khandania.
Again Sadhu plays and says, "We don't eat from Vanjia's house. "

This historical event which is connected with Khandania still bears witness to the history in Shialbet as Khandania of Khandaniyo – Chelaiya. You will find that Chelaiyya is also connected with Bilkha village of Junagadh district.

શિયાળબેટ ટાપુ પીપાવાવ પોર્ટથી દક્ષિણે અને જાફરાબાદ થી 25 નોટીકલ માઈલ દૂર શિયાળબેટ પર એની પ્રાકૃતિક અને ભૌગોલિક પ્રતિકૂળતાઓને લીધે આજે પણ હવાઈ કે જમીનમાર્ગે વાહનવહારની કોઈજ સુવિધાઓ નથી. ચોમાસાના 4 મહિનાને બાદ કરતા બાકીના 8 મહિના આ પ્રજાસમૂહ દરિયાખેડુ તરીકે જાફરાબાદ અને આસપાસના દરિયા વિસ્તારોમાં વિતાવે છે. 98 હેક્ટરમાં ફેલાયેલ શિયાળબેટ ચારે તરફથી અરબી સમુદ્રથી ઘેરાયેલ છે. 5000 જેટલી માનવવસતિવાળો ગુજરાતનો આ એક એવો વિસ્તાર છે. શિયાળબેટ જેનું સાક્ષરતા દર - 31.02% છે અને જાતિ પ્રમાણ - 911 છે. જ્યાં માત્ર દરીયાઈ માર્ગે હોડી કે બોટ દ્વારા જ જઈ શકાય છે. આ શિયાળબેટનો આગવો ઈતિહાસ છે.
શિયાળબેટ સાથે જોડાયેલી ઈતિહાસ જાણકારી :
પ્રાચીન સમયમાં સિંહલદ્વિપ તરીકે ઓળખાતું નગર એટલે આ શિયાળબેટ. હાલમાં અમરેલી જિલ્લાનાં જાફરાબાદ તાલુકામાં આવેલો એક ટાપુ છે. શિયાળબેટ ગામ પોતાનો આગવો અને અનેરો ઈતિહાસ ધરાવે છે. ચાવડા વંશજોની રાજધાની રહેલું આ ગામ પીપાવાવ પોર્ટબંદરથી માત્ર 5 કિ.મી. જ દૂર આવેલું છે. શિયાળબેટ તેના નૈસર્ગિક, પ્રાચીન અને ઘાર્મિક સ્થળો માટે ઘણો જાણીતો છે. શિયાળબેટ ખાતે થાનવાવ, ચેલૈયાનો ખાંડણિયો, ભેંસલાપીર, સવાઇ પીર, રામજી મંદિર, દરગાહ સહિત અનેક ધાર્મિક સ્થાનો આવેલા છે.
શિયાળબેટ ટાપુ ખુબ ઉજળો ઈતિહાસ ધરાવે છે. પ્રાચીન સમયમાં આ સિંહલદ્વિપ નામની નગરીમાં રાજા કનકસિંહનું શાસન હતું. આ રાજાને ખૂબ જ સુંદર અને બુધ્ધિશાળી પુત્રી હતી. સુંદર અને બુધ્ધિશાળી હોવાનું તેને ભારે અભિમાન. બત્રીસ લક્ષણો અને બુધ્ધિચાતુર્યથી ભરેલા પોતાનાં સવાલોનાં જવાબ આપે એવા રાજકુમાર સાથે જ લગ્ન કરવાની તેની જિદ હતી. પણ શરત એ હતી કે જે રાજકુમારીનાં સવાલોનાં જવાબ ન આપી શકે એને કેદ કરવામાં આવતા.
રાજકુમારીનાં સવાલોનાં જવાબ જે કોઈ ખોટા આપતું તો તેવા રાજકુમારોને બંદી બનાવીને જેલ હવાલે કરાતા. આવા તો એમણે 999 જેટલા રાજકુમારોને કેદ કરેલા. એમ કહેવાય છે કે આ કેદી રાજકુમારો પાસે એમણે અસંખ્ય વાવો ખોદાવડાવી હતી જેમાંથી આજે પણ તેનાં અવશેષો શિયાળબેટમાં જોવા મળે છે. આવી જ એક ઘટનામાં તાલધ્વજ ( હાલનું તળાજા શહેર ) નાં ધણી વીર એભલવાળાએ તેના ભાણેજ અને જુનાગઢનાં રાજા રા’કવાટને આ સ્થળેથી બંદીવાનમાંથી છોડાવવા યુધ્ધ કરેલું. જેમાં એભલવાળાએ તેના ભાણેજને મુક્ત કરાવીને રાજા તથા રાજકુવરીનો વધ કર્યો હતો.
શિયાળબેટ ટાપુનાં દરિયાકિનારે એક એક મીઠા પાણીનું ઝરણું આવેલું છે. સમુદ્રની ભરતીનાં ખારાપાણી તેના પર ફરી વળે છે તેમ છતાં આ ઝરણાનું પાણી મીઠું જ રહે છે, આ એક કુદરતનો કરિશ્મા છે. આ ઝરણાને ‘‘ગુપ્તગંગા’’ ના નામથી ઓળખવામાં આવે છે. વાવની વાત આવી એટલે યાદ આવ્યું કે અહીં શિયાળબેટમાં એક થાનકી વાવ(કુવો) કરીને વાવ(કુવો) આવેલી છે. આ વાવ વિશે એવી લોક માન્યતા સાંભળવા મળે છે કે જે સ્ત્રીઓ પોતાનાં બાળકોને સ્તનપાન ન કરાવી શકતી હોય (દુધ ન આવવું) તેવી સ્ત્રીઓ પોતાનું ઉપવસ્ત્ર ઉતારીને આ થાનકી વાવમાં બોળે તો તેમની આ સમસ્યા દૂર થાય છે.
શિયાળબેટમાં ગંગાતળાવ નામનું પ્રાચીન તળાવ આવેલુ છે. અહી ગુરુ ગોરખનાથની પ્રાચીન ગુફા આવેલી છે. કહેવાય છે કે રૂક્ષ્મણીજીને બંગડીઓ બાંધી ગુરુ ગોરખનાથ શિયાળબેટમાં આ જગ્યાએ આવીને સાધના કરી હતી. આ જગ્યાએ બેસીને જઇ શકાય એવું સાંકડું પ્રવેશદ્વાર છે.
આ સિવાય અહીંયા ગણપતિ તેમજ હનુમાનજીના મંદિર પણ છે. જૈન ધર્મનાં નેમીનાથ તથા પાર્શ્વનાથની પ્રાચીન મૂર્તિઓ પણ અહિયાં આવેલી છે. ગંગા તળાવની પાસે જ ચેલૈયાનો ખાંડણીયો આવેલ છે. કહેવાય છે કે શેઠ સગાળશા અને ચંગાવતી શેઠાણીએ પોતાનાં એકનાં એક પુત્ર ચેલૈયાને આ ખાંડણીયામાં ખાંડેલો. તેમની ભક્તિનાં પારખા કરવા આવેલા ભગવાનને જમાડેલા.
શિયાળબેટ સાથે જોડાયેલ શેઠ સગાળશા અને ચંગાવતીના ચેલૈયાની કથા :
શેઠ સગાળશા અને ચંગાવતીના ચેલૈયાની કથા કઈક આ મુજ છે... એક વખતે લક્ષ્મીજીની જીદના કારણે શેઠ સગાળશા અને ચંગાવતી શેઠાણીની ભક્તિની પરીક્ષા લેવા કૃષ્ણ ભગવાન પોતે રક્તપીતિયા સાધુનો વેશ ધારણ કરીને ગામનાં પાદરે આવ્યા શેઠ-શેઠાણીને એવી ટેક હતી કે કોઈપણ સાધુ બ્રાહ્મણને પહેલા જમાડવા અને પછી જ ભોજન આરોગવું. સમય પણ ચોમાસાનો હતો. ત્રણ–ચાર દિવસથી ભારે વરસાદનાં કારણે કોઈ સાધુ બ્રાહ્મણ મળ્યા નહીં. ત્યારે કોઈએ આ રક્તપીતિયા સાધુ વિશે શેઠને આવીને વાત કરી.
શેઠ સગાળશા જાતે જ તેમને ટોપલામાં બેસાડીને પોતાનાં ઘરે તેડી લાવ્યા. એમનું સ્વાગત કર્યું. ભાવથી સુંદર રસોઈ તૈયાર થઈ. શેઠાણી થાળ લઈને આવ્યા ત્યારે સાધુએ થાળનો ઘા કરતા કહ્યું , ‘‘ખીર રોટલી અમે જમતા નથી, નથી અન્નનો આહાર, માજન લોકો, અમે માંસનાં આહારી, એમ બોલિયાં કિરતાર. ’’
ધર્મપરાયણ વણિકને ત્યાં માંસ તો પાપરૂપ ગણાય. પણ અતિથિ ભૂખ્યા જાય તો પોતાની ટેક ભાંગે. આખરે શેઠ પોતે તુરત જ ગુપ્ત રીતે કસાઈવાડે જઈને માંસ લઈ આવ્યા. મનમાં કોઈપણ સુગની ભાવના વગર માંસ રાંધીને શેઠાણીએ સાધુ મહારાજને થાળ પીરસ્યો.
પણ સાધુએ થાળ આરોગ્યો નહીં ને ગુસ્સાથી બોલ્યાં, “ અમે રે માટી માણસની જમીએ, પર માટી ન પ્યાર, અઘોર પંથમાં રહેવું અમારે , ખેલ ખાંડાની ધાર. ”
શેઠ – શેઠાણી તો આવું સાંભળી સ્તબ્ધ થઈ ગયા. પોતાની ખરી કસોટી થઈ રહી છે, એવું વિચારી આખરે માણસનું માંસ પણ લાવી દેવા ‘ હા ’ પડાઈ. પણ ફરીવાર મુંજવણ વધી કે જો પોતાનું માંસ અતિથિને ખવડાવીએ તો સાધુને જમાડે કોણ ? અને બીજું કોઈ મરવા માટે તૈયાર થાય નહીં. છેવટે પોતાનાં એકનાં એક પુત્ર – ચેલૈયાને મારવાનો નિર્ણય થાય છે. શેઠ – શેઠાણીની પરીક્ષા લેવા આવેલા રક્તપીતિયા સાધુનાં વેશમાં તો ખુદ ઈશ્વર જ હતા. તેથી ચેલૈયાને પણ ડરાવવામાં આવ્યો. પણ ચેલૈયો ખાનદાન માતાપિતાનો પુત્ર ડગ્યો નહીં.
ઉલ્ટાનો કહે છે ” ભાગુ તો મારી ભોમકા લાજે, ભોરિંગ જીલે ન ભાર. ” આખરે ચેલૈયાને મારીને ખાંડણીયામાં ખાંડીને રાંધીને ખવડાવવા શેઠાણી સાધુ તરફ થાળ ધરે છે.
ફરી સાધુ નાટક કરે છે ને કહે છે , ‘‘ અમે વાંજિયાનાં ઘરનું ખાતા નથી. ’’
ત્યારે ચંગાવતી કહે છે કે અમે વાંજિયા નથી, મારા ઉદરમાં સાત માંસનો ગર્ભ છે. જે હુ મારુ પેટ ચીરીને આપને બતાવું છુ.
અને પોતે પોતાના ઉદરમાં રહેલા બાળક પર કટારનો ઘા કરવા જાય છે ત્યારે ઈશ્વર પ્રગટ થાય છે.
પછી તો ચેલૈયાને જીવનદાન આપે છે. શેઠ સગાળશા અને ચંગાવતી શેઠાણીની ભક્તિથી પણ ભગવાન પ્રસન્ન થાય છે. અને વરદાન માંગવાનું કહે છે. ત્યારે શેઠ સગાળશા એટલું જ માંગે છે કે હે ભગવાન તમે જેવી કસોટી અમારી લીધી એવી કસોટી હવે પછી બિજા કોઇની ન લેશો.”
આ ઐતિહાસિક ઘટના જે ખાંડણિયા સાથે જોડાયેલ છે તે ખાંડણિયો – ચેલૈયાનાં ખાંડણિયા તરીકે શિયાળબેટમાં આજે પણ ઈતિહાસની સાક્ષી પૂરે છે. તમને થશે કે ચેલૈયાની વાત તો જુનાગઢ જિલ્લાનાં બિલખા ગામ સાથે પણ જોડાયેલી છે.
પરંતુ આ ઘટના બન્યા પછી શેઠ – શેઠાણી બિલખા જતા રહ્યા હોય એવું બની શકે. એનો પુરાવો તમે જ્યારે બિલખા જાવ ત્યારે ત્યાં સગાળશા શેઠનાં ડેલામાં ‘‘ મુળ શિયાળબેટનાં વતની ’’ એવું લખાયેલું છે. તેના પરથી તારવી શકાય.
શિયાળબેટનો ભૌગોલિક પરિચય વિશે જાણીએ) :
શિયાળબેટ જાફરાબાદ અને રાજુલા તાલુકામાં દરિયાઇ વિસ્તાર આવેલ હોવાને કારણે માછીમારી અને મીઠાના ઉત્પાદન મેળવી શકાય છે. સાગરકાંઠા મંડળ વિસ્તારમાં દરિયાઇ પાણી ફરી વળતા કુદરતી રીતે જ મીઠું પાકે છે. આ વિસ્તારમાં પાકતા મીઠામાંથી સુરોખાર, સોડા અને સોડિયમ સલ્ફેટ બને છે. જાફરાબાદ તાલુકામાં બાબરકોટ, શિયાળ બેટ અને જાફરાબાદમાં મત્સ્યોદ્યોગનો ઝડપથી વિકાસ પામ્યો છે.
જાફરાબાદ વિસ્તારમાં બૂમલા નામની માછલી મોટા પ્રમાણમાં મળી આવે છે. આ ઉપરાંત જીંગા, ધોલ, દારા, મેદલી, બગા પાટાપાટી અને ખાગા નામની માછલીની મુખ્ય જાતો જોવા મળે છે. ઓક્ટોબર થી જાન્યુઆરીના સમયગાળા દરમિયાન સારા એવા પ્રમાણમાં આ માછલીઓ મળી રહે છે. આથી બહારના માછીમારો પણ અહીં માછીમારી કરવા આવે છે. આ માછલીઓને ત્યાં જ સૂકવીને મહારાષ્ટ્ર, મધ્યપ્રદેશ, આંધ્રપ્રદેશ, આસામ અને શ્રીલંકા ખાતે નિકાસ કરવામાં આવે છે. આથી જ વ્પાપાર અને આર્થિક પાસાથી વિચારીએ તો અહીં માછલીની પ્રક્રિયા સંબંધિત ફીશીંગ પ્લાન્ટ, શીતાગાર, બરફના કારખાના, ફીશમીલ, નાયલોનના દોરડા, દરિયાઇ એન્જિન રીપેરીંગના કામકાજની તકો પણ વધુ છે. માછીમારીની પ્રવૃત્તિ સાથે મુખ્યત્વે કોળી, ખારવા, ખલાસી, ટંડેલ અને નાવિકો સંકળાયેલ છે. તેઓ રણછોડરાય, મેલડી, વહાણવટી, શિકોતર, મોમાઇ, કાળકા, ભવાની, આશાપુરા દેવ-દેવીઓને અને પીરને પૂજે છે.
